I'm just as likely the wrong audience for this series, but since I did enjoy the first book some what I feel I should comment on this one. While I was not enthralled with the first book it showed some potential. The best part being the characters are very likeable and you can enjoy reading just to see what happens to them. Since then however the books have had issues. In this book the first being that there is no real story. It was more like the author just strung together a bunch of moments that meant absolutely nothing. The characters would have achieved more by washing their clothes. The actual plot events could have been covered in one chapter. The characters are likeable still but the heroine keeps becoming an idiot at moments. She lives in a world where the supernatural happens every day yet in the second and this book it isn't something she considers until her face has been rubbed in it. That is when she isn't acting childish. If the author didn't keep giving her a "get out of jail free" card if you will then she wouldn't have any supporting characters left. It is fine to have a powerful character but the situations shouldn't be created just so the character can use the powers. Give some plot meaning to these events not just another blind stupid decision that she can then three pages later just pull out the mojo card just to say it is all better.
I say if you are desperate for a book like I was then read the first book it really isn't bad read and worth the money. Then stop. Nothing is developed in the next books that are even worth the reading let alone the money.

Sometimes with change comes great responsibility.
Keira Kelly has completed her change. She thought she would become shapeshifter like her brothers but has become more. Keira is the new Kelly Heir, one who leads and also possesses all talents. It is rumored that the heir is random and only occurs every few centuries. Keira hadn't planned on this happening and doesn't want all the notoriety.
When Keira's ex-lover Gideon is dying, the Kelly clan requests Keira's presence. If he dies, she can help escort him to the other side. But before Keira can reach him, her travels are waylaid. First by an unexpected storm and then by several mysterious murders. Keira keeps hearing beautiful music no one else seems to hear. Also, homeless men keep dying that no one finds too unsuspecting until a sidhe fairy is found murdered. Keira halts her travel plans to figure out what is going on.
Accompanied by her brother Tucker, his vampire lover Niko, and her mate, the Vampire King Adam, they gain entrance to the world of fairy. There, secrets come to light along with shocking clarity that threatens them all.
Maria Lima has penned another top-notch paranormal thriller. BLOOD KIN ends the BLOOD LINES trilogy with many questions answered, but yet the door slightly ajar for a hopeful new story arc in the future. Keira Kelly has grown into a powerful woman to be reckoned with, along with the men who protect her. A complex plot, superb world building and phenomenal characters spin BLOOD KIN into a dark and sexy urban fantasy. Maria Lima is a great addition to the paranormal genre.
The first two books in this series were great. New, fresh, and seem to be written by someone else. This book was boring, predictable, and the heroine seems to have had a personality change. Further, she talks and talks and talks and talks. Ugh. Very disappointing.
Keira Kelly belongs to Clan Kelly, a family of magic users who look human, but cannot breed with them. She is at Wild Moon Ranch in Texas with her lover Adam the vampire king of his tribe when she undergoes the Change. Normally that brings the person one paranormal power, but in her case the Change provides her with all the diverse powers her clan mates possess. This makes her the heir to the clan leader so she must leave behind her beloved vampire for a little while and heed her Great-Great Grandmother Gigi's call to head to Vancouver.
Gideon, Keira's evil ex lover, is dying. Gigi asks Keira to escort him to her mother's side if they can't heal him. A Sidhe Seelie Daffyd ap Geraint accompanies them. When they are sitting in a vehicle he disappears. Only Keira heard the song which means the Sidhe called back Daffyd. In Vancouver near the entrance to Faerie an Unseelie Sidhe is killing the homeless stealing their essence. Keira and her entourage hunt down the killer as she learns more about her heritage and Gigi's plans for her include uniting with Others.
This is a great urban fantasy as Maria Lima uses British Columbia to the fullest and cleverly keeps Gigi off the page until the end yet her presence seems everywhere. Gigi is a kind ruler whose strategic goal is the uniting of the paranormal species so as to end their hostilities; she believes her descendent is the key. Keira is terrific as the confused "coming of age" heroine who seems to be in ever paranormal being's crosshairs. Ms. Lima's tale is a special romantic suspense fantasy on a par with the best works of Laurel K. Hamilton and Kelly Armstrong.
