Winter Lunar Marissa Meyer Books

Quick Thoughts: Overall the ending to this series was very good and I was pleased with the wrap up to the story. A lot of questions were answered and the action sequences in this book were awesome. However, I did have a few questions left over at the end and didn’t love it quite as much as everyone else.

Full Review: Alright. This book took me almost a month to rate or even review. I had many mixed feelings about this book after finishing it and I still feel like I’m sorting through them. I wanted to love the wrap up to this series after seeing so many glowing reviews online, but I got stuck. There were a lot of things I liked. For instance, the action and adventure in this series has always sucked me in. I feel like I can really visualize what is going on and Meyer has always given me a complete picture of this futuristic world. I ship all the ship especially the friendships and felt very satisfied with the conclusion of this story. However, I did have a few problems.

The fairytale interpretations throughout this series have been innovative and this installment is spot on as well. I love the elements of the Snow White fairytale we saw and the futuristic twist to the classic story too. However, there were a few points where scenes felt forced into the story to accommodate more parts of the fairytale. In some ways this story has become completely independent of the original stories so I found it a bit disruptive to be reminded this was a retelling. However, I felt very similarly at the end of Cinder and upon reread found it worked better for me.

My other issue with this book was the main couple. I had a really hard time with Jacin and Winter at first. There was so much character development and progress in Cress. I was already in the middle of so many stories and character arcs I had a hard time starting two new ones. Eventually I did like both of them and found their stories interesting. Plus Winter and Scarlet's friendship was a really interesting dynamic. I love Scarlet so as she and Winter spent more time together, I warmed up to Winter.

Like I mentioned though, the wrap up was well done. I liked the ending and how fast-paced and thrilling the conclusion was. There is a lot of drama and excitement in this wrap up. It is a long book so be prepared for emotional upheaval and lots of action. I was pleased about a lot of the decisions Meyer made for her characters and how the story panned out. I was satisfied with the conclusion of the story.

Winter Lunar Marissa Meyer Books Reviews

5 stars.

This was wonderful.

I was putting this off for a while, mainly because finale's usually don't deliver for me. Plus I felt mostly 'meh' on Fairest, however, I really loved Cress, and I wanted to see where all these characters ended up. So when Tome Topple came around again this year, I made this priority #1.

Winter and Jacin, Cinder and Kai are the main characters in this story, while Scarlet/Wolf and Cress/Thorne are in this a lot too I felt they were more secondary characters.

Normally when I'm reading a multi-POV novel there is one or two story lines that I am NOT interested in and I'm dying to get back to the other characters. Imagine my surprise when every single character kept me engaged. It didn't matter who the chapter followed, I was invested and I wanted to know what was going to happen.

There were many moments where I was worried about one of the characters. I stopped reading for about a day because I was sure 2 of the characters weren't going to make it to the end and I had to prepare myself for the possible reality.

This was such a great read and such a satisfying finale for me. I'm really looking forward to reading the bind up of the short stories that come both before and after this book. I've already read a couple because they were included in the paperback editions of Cinder and Scarlet but the others are completely to me.

Even though I'm not completely done with the series, since I haven't read that bindup or the graphic novels centered around Iko yet, overall this series was really great. It's a solid series and I hope to read it again sometime in the future.
The Lunar Chronicles is a re-imagined set of fairy tales set in the future that intertwines Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White.

The series is wonderful. Marissa Meyer's has all the attributes of a great writer. Good writing style, interesting stories and characters (even when she's borrowing some famous ones). Actually I should point out that these characters in particular are both flawed and perfect in their own ways. Perhaps because you go in with a preconceived notion given you've always known at least one version of their stories.

I think what really helps Meyer's stand out though is her brilliant plots. The plots are never quite what you think they'll be -- somehow they're more clever, more elaborate and intense then you expected. I found that to be especially true of Winter.

Cinder, Scarlet and Cress introduce us to the respective characters and build up to an explosive conclusion to the series. The main books are those 4. Fairest of Them All is a companion book that offers Levana's (evil stepmother to Winter) and Stars Above - a set of short stories that take place after Winter.

The Lunar Chronicles is delightful, tragic, and remarkable.
