5 Stars (Originally Read 3/9/15)4.5 Stars (Re-Read 6/20/17)
Overall Opinion: This was still a great read. I will keep it on my favorites shelf, even though I am dropping the rating from 5 stars to 4.5 stars. The ending was too rushed for me to justify giving it 5 stars again. While I still teared up and got emotional at times, I don't think I was moved as much by the story as I was when I first read it. That's not the book's fault though! I think it's just that I knew what to expect this time 'round. I am confident in that it still earned the 4.5 stars, and for my grumpy self that says a lot 😜

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Eliza and Till's story. They meet when they are young teens in an abandoned apartment trying to hide from their real worlds. They form an instant and strong friendship that eventually turns into more. After crossing the line in their friendship and facing the big changes in their lives, they are separated. When reunited, Till needs Eliza more than ever in helping him deal with his new reality. There are some sexy times, some heartbreaking events, and some laugh-out-loud sweet moments...and they get a HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Eliza and Till's POV (with a few small sections with other's POV).
Overall Pace of Story: Good, but the ending felt rushed. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well otherwise.
Instalove: No, they take their time in developing stronger feelings.
H rating: 4 stars. Till. I liked him. Yes, he acted like an idiot and pushed the h away at times, but I still liked him!
h rating: 4 stars. Eliza. I liked her. She was feisty and loyal, and she knew her limits with the H and I really appreciated when she demanded more of him.
Sadness level: Low/moderate this time round, but I do remember crying more the first time I read it.
Push/Pull: Yes
Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: Yes
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: Yes
Closure: This had decent closure with what I would call a HEA. I did feel like the ending was rushed, and we could've gotten more closure. Because I have read the other books in the series, I know that we get some of that closure in those books.
How I got it: I paid the $3.99 on Amazon for it (I originally got it through my scribed subscription, but it's no longer available).

Fighting Silence On The Ropes Book 1 edition by Aly Martinez Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Serious book hangover here. This story had a little of everything in it, but what I loved most was the bond and relationship between the characters, especially the H and h. They indeed had a major codependency thing going on, but not once did it seem unrealistic, unhealthy, or dysfunctional. They just desperately needed one another. They were everything to each other.
I felt like there were so many touchy things happening I can't articulate them all. To sum it up, you have two ppl with sad pasts, who early on in life became each others peace. Throughout the years, that never changed. The humor between the three brothers, and the h were actually hilarious to me. Honestly, I don't easily find humor in books, and I'm a silly, love to laugh kinda gal. My absolute favorite thing about this book, was NO unnecessary drama!!!!!!
I wish I could write a review that could do the book justice, but all I can do is let you know I highly recommend it! Lol. I also would like to vote the h as perhaps one of the best h...ever. She was a ROCK throughout this book, never wavered from who she started this book out being. She was loving, caring, funny, strong and just plain awesome.
There's just so much to say about Fighting Silence that I almost don't know where to start. If you were to categorize it, you'd probably go with 'Fighter story', but that wouldn't remotely do it justice even though Till's relationship with the gym he starts attending at seventeen and boxing in general form a central theme.
You could also categorize it as a friends to lovers story, since Till and Eliza meet at the tender age of thirteen and remain just friends for many years before things start to get really complicated, but again, that probably misses what the central theme of the book deals with.
Even the theme alluded to in the title, Till's battle not simply to become a word champion boxer, but to face up to and deal with a diagnosis of a degenerative condition that will eventually leave him completely deaf ... to me, while important, still didn't seem to be what was most important.
For me, it was a coming of age story. Regardless of their ages, Aly Martinez' portrays for us two characters that each have their own issues, Till in particular struggles enormously with saying goodbye to his childhood fantasies ... flights of fancy that have been his solace through countless storms that have ravaged his young life, and setting them aside to fully embrace the real world as a genuine adult. The world in which Eliza has been waiting for him since she was barely a teenager.
So often on social media these days you'll see comments along the lines of "I don't feel like adulting today", and I can certainly sympathize with that notion from time to time, but Till, Till manages to suck it up and deal with all of the crap in his life, but only so long as he can retreat, even if only in his imagination, to a world where he's just a kid, and Doodle is there waiting for him.
I absolutely fell in love with this book, and the wonderful array of characters it brings, the way the various themes were interwoven, but above all with the characters of Till and Eliza themselves, it really is something special.
